The Bali Kite Festival is in its 37th year, an annual festival among the Balinese, who regard the art of kite making and piloting in high esteem. The ongoing event is enjoyed by the international community as it provides rare opportunities to enjoy gigantic traditional kites built with contemporary designs. The construction of a bamboo frame is festooned with colourful designs. Most days during 'kite season' kites are carried to the beach on trucks, with police and team outriders in club colours with sirens wailing. The festival usually takes place around the start of the windy season, between end June through August and sometimes until October. The agrarian background of the Balinese largely contributes to this kite-flying tradition, when these months usually provide open fields after harvests.
