Description
Begin your adventure with a visit to Pura Kehen, an ancient Balinese Hindu temple in Bangli Regency. Marvel at its unique architecture, rich history, and the sacred, centuries-old banyan tree in its courtyard. Often described as a miniature version of the 'Mother Temple' Besakih, it was the royal temple of the Bangli Kingdom. Dating back at least to the 9th century, Pura Kehen was the official temple where royal officials took oaths of allegiance. The name 'Kehen' is derived from the Balinese word keren, meaning 'flame,' referring to the fire god, Hyang Api or Agni, to whom the temple was initially dedicated. Unfaithful officials were said to face a terrible curse from the god of fire. Unlike most Balinese temples that feature a split gate entrance (candi bentar), Pura Kehen uses a rare covered gateway called a Candi Kurung. The temple complex is built on eight stepped terraces, with a prominent 11-tiered meru (thatched-roof tower) in the inner courtyard dedicated to the protective gods. A massive, ancient banyan tree with wide-spreading roots dominates the outer courtyard. A kulkul (traditional bamboo drum used for signaling during ceremonies or danger) is uniquely housed in a pavilion built high up in the tree's branches. Local belief holds that if a large branch of this sacred tree breaks off, a major disaster will follow. The inner temple walls are uniquely decorated with ancient Chinese porcelain plates, a testament to the historical trade relationships between the local kingdom and China. Next, head to Toya Bulan Waterfall, a serene hidden gem surrounded by lush jungle and peaceful natural scenery. The waterfall flows gracefully down mossy rock walls, creating a refreshing and calming atmosphere. With its clear, cool water and tranquil environment, Toya Bulan is perfect for travelers seeking a quiet escape away from the crowds. The short trek to reach the site adds a touch of adventure, and the untouched nature makes it an ideal spot for photography and relaxation. Finally, visit Temesi Waterfall, a peaceful hidden oasis tucked inside the lush greenery of Gianyar. The waterfall cascades down a rocky cliff into a calm natural pool, creating a soothing atmosphere perfect for relaxing or enjoying nature. Surrounded by dense jungle and birdsong, the area feels untouched and tranquil. Its easy access and quiet setting make Temesi Waterfall an ideal spot for short nature walks, refreshing dips, and scenic photography away from the busy tourist crowds.Includes
