Bali Denpasar Airport (DPS) is about 38 km from Bali’s centre in a straight line. It is the main gateway for visitors heading to the island’s beach resorts, inland towns and ferry connections.

Arriving at the airport and finding your way out

Follow the signs for baggage collection, immigration and customs, then check that you have all your belongings before entering the public arrivals area. If someone is meeting you, agree a clear meeting point in advance and keep your accommodation address available in written form. Staff at the airport information desks can help if you need directions or local transport guidance.

Expect a busy road outside arrivals, particularly when several flights reach the airport close together. Avoid accepting offers from unofficial drivers inside the building. If you have arranged a transfer, confirm the meeting instructions and vehicle details before leaving the arrivals area.

Getting into town

A private transfer is a convenient choice when you have luggage, are travelling as a group or are arriving late. Pre-booked drivers can meet you at an agreed point and take you directly to your accommodation, although you should check the collection instructions and cancellation terms before travelling.

Taxis are available from the airport. Use the official taxi arrangements and confirm the destination before setting off. Public transport can be useful for travellers who are comfortable checking routes locally, but services, stops and operating arrangements can change, so check current information at the airport. Hiring a car gives you more freedom for an island trip, but Bali traffic, scooters, narrow roads and local driving conditions require care. Check licence, insurance and collection arrangements before accepting the vehicle.

Popular transfers from the airport

Common onward destinations include Ubud, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and Canggu. Padang Bai is a practical choice for travellers continuing towards eastern Bali and ferry connections. Nusa Lembongan requires an onward boat journey, so allow for the transfer between the airport, the departure point and your accommodation, and check current boat information before travelling.

Flying home

For your return journey, leave your accommodation with enough flexibility for traffic, road conditions, luggage drop-off, security and any airport formalities. Roads can be unpredictable, especially during busy periods or heavy rain. Confirm your airline’s current check-in guidance and allow extra time if you are returning a hire car or travelling from outside the southern resort areas.
