Description
Embrace the soul of Bali's living heritage in the scenic hills of Sidemen. Your cultural journey begins with a warm welcome and a refreshing bottle of mineral water to keep you hydrated. As you settle in, your local guide will share a captivating introduction to the historical and spiritual significance of Kain Endek (ikat) and Kain Songket—intricate fabrics deeply woven into Balinese ritual life and village identity.
Next, step into the vibrant rhythm of the workshop for three fully interactive, hands-on crafting experiences:
1. Precision Stick-Dyeing (Mewarnai dengan Stik Bambu)Get a close-up look at the unique Endek coloring process. Working with thread bundles pre-tied into traditional patterns, you will use a specialized bamboo stick to meticulously apply vibrant liquid dyes. Watch as the colors penetrate the fibers, bringing hidden designs to life.
2. Traditional Thread Spinning (Memintal Benang)Take your seat at a vintage, hand-operated wooden spinning wheel. Guided closely by a local artisan, you will practice the steady posture and rhythm needed to turn raw cotton fibers into strong, smooth weaving threads—feeling a deep, tactile connection to a timeless village skill.
3. Hands-On Loom Weaving (Mencoba Menenun)Step up to a heavy, non-mechanical wooden loom (ATBM). Your mentor will teach you to coordinate the foot pedals and slide the wooden shuttle smoothly across the frame. You will actively weave several rows of fabric yourself, experiencing the immense focus and precision required to create a single masterpiece.
After mastering the loom, elevate your experience with a premium cultural photoshoot. You will be elegantly styled in authentic, high-quality Kain Endek woven right inside the workshop. Step out into the studio's scenic grounds to capture beautiful photos against a magnificent Kori Agung (traditional Balinese stone gateway), with the dramatic, rolling green hills of Sidemen serving as your panoramic backdrop.
To mark the completion of your weaving journey, you will be gifted a beautifully crafted 25cm x 180cm woven scarf in your preferred color variant—a tangible piece of Sidemen’s living heritage to carry with you.
Before heading back, feel free to explore the on-site gallery to appreciate more masterworks created by the weavers who guided you throughout the day.
