Your experience begins at 1:00 PM as you arrive at a modest open-air dance studio where you’ll be warmly welcomed by Ketut Sudirawan, a respected Balinese artist dedicated to preserving traditional dance and music. This is not a staged tourist performance, but a genuine cultural learning experience. You’ll join a group of local children during their daily dance practice and learn the basic hand gestures, footwork, and expressive movements that make Balinese dance so unique. Guided by Ketut and his team, you’ll discover how each movement reflects stories of gods, nature, and harmony in Balinese culture. During the session, you’ll also be introduced to the enchanting sounds of traditional gamelan music and have the opportunity to see the instruments up close while learning about their role in dance performances. The experience continues with insights into traditional costumes, makeup, and the rituals that transform dancers into storytellers of Balinese mythology.
