The iconic Soori Bali, a luxurious seaside resort designed by legendary architect Soo K. Chan, which will be opening its doors to guests under its own management as part of a new luxury lifestyle brand. Formerly the Alila Villas Soori, owners Soo Khian Chan and wife Ling Fu have re-opened the doors of this extraordinary resort situated in front of one of Bali’s stunning black volcanic beaches, with views of the UNESCO-protected rice terraces unique to the island and the amazing Mount Batukaru. Located in Tabanan, Soori Bali is conveniently located within minutes of Tanah Lot, one of Bali’s most famous temples, and an 18-hole championship golf course.

Before the official grand opening in spring 2017, the couple plans to add new amenities to this spectacular property. The new amenities include a 100-seat special events platform atop a cliff over-looking the Indian Ocean, a magical wedding lawn with sensational views of the peninsular and an authentic Indonesian specialty restaurant in the luscious green rice fields that surrounds Soori Bali. These features will be added to the landscaped gardens, pools, high-end bars and ocean view restaurant already on the property.

The 48 villas and residences on the resort’s property will also be experiencing renovations, including new roofing and the installation of new AV equipment and air conditioning systems. All additions and renovations made to the resort will be completed under a new management team while retaining staff members. The vision of Singaporean Soo Chan, founder of Singapore-based SCDA Architects, and his wife Ling Fu, Soori Bali (a combination of Soo and Sri, Ling’s Indonesian name) was originally the family’s vacation home which was expanded to host family and friends and later developed into the delightful ecologically sustainable, EarthCheck-certified resort that resides today. For the past six years, the couple have made environmental and cultural sustainability their utmost priority for the high-end resort, which sources fresh produce from local farms and spices from its own garden for the resort’s ocean view restaurant; as well as high quality organic products for its spa.

Soo Chan was inspired by the natural unique landscape and local villages on the island, which he incorporated into Soori Bali’s award-winning architure. The resort was built using natural materials from the surrounding area, such as stone from nearby village quarries and is decorated with terracotta and other locally sourced ceramic ornaments.

“I’ve designed hotels and resorts around the globe and yet with Soori Bali I’ve made all of the decisions and the result is the most honest of my creations,” he said. “For me, Soori Bali is as much a state of mind as it is a world-class resort; it’s a peaceful, private and re-energising place.”

The resort has also been described by Soo Chan, as “spiritually-charged” in reference to the ancestral ritual pathways on the property and throughout Bali. The property is a pure peaceful refuge which fits right in with the rejuvenating spirituality of Bali. Soori Bali is now part of the global Soori family which includes Soori High Line, a luxury residence in New York City’s West Chelsea, and Soori Niseko, an upcoming ski resort in Japan. Although Soori Bali is the first new development to be unveiled under Soo Chan’s new luxury lifestyle brand Soori, there are many new major developments in the works.
