Heliconia Floral Art
Bali
Gede Arya approached Australian Michael Pritchard to put his more than 20 years experience in the flower industry in Sydney, into the formation of a team of talented designers to create interesting and unusual floral designs for the Bali and Indonesian market. Most of the flowers used by Heliconia are grown in Indonesia, but some exotic blooms are also imported for a particular function or client, often using fresh bamboo, natural or sprayed, with tropical fruits and unusual combinations of natural material.
Innovative floral designs by Heliconia have set the standard for the flower industry in Bali and beyond, with extensive experience in organizing and orchestrating world class events and creating personal themes for special functions.
Local clients include Ku de ta, Papparazzi, Double Six, Bacio, Living Room, Westin Hotel, Como Shambala Estate, Four Seasons and Nikko Hotel. The team arranged flowers for the former president Megawati Sukarno Putri. The Australian Government chose Heliconia to design the site and create the floral decoration for the first anniversary of Bali Bombing in 2003 which included guests from all over the world. Heliconia supply most of the top end private villas and handle most of the large events and weddings in hotels on Bali.
The design team was chosen by Indigo Pearl – a boutique hotel in Phuket, Thailand in November 2006, completing the training of the floral department of this luxury boutique hotel (300 rooms) including setting up a retail gallery style flower shop in the lobby, back of house flower department and flower designs for all public areas, rooms and spa.
The team visited the Park Hyatt in Goa, India in January 2007 to organise their in-house flower department, covering all room flowers, as well as public areas and restaurants.
Heliconia’s approach to floral art is contemporary and each design is a one-off creation that can stand as an art form on its own. The design team is continually searching for new inspiration and ideas with the stress on individual creativity within the team.
